SUPPORT OPERA STUDIO
The Opera Studio has earned a reputation for excellent work. The Victoria newspaper Times Colonist praised it as “the little jewel in the crown of Victoria’s art scene.” With each acclaimed production, the audience has grown to the point where houses have been sold out.
The Opera Studio has also gained public attention through its main benefactor, Richard Margison, who has staged two enormously successful fundraising galas on its behalf. Mr. Margison’s commitment to the Opera Studio and to Selena James, his former teacher, clearly testifies to the value of this program.
Many individuals and businesses have become loyal advocates and financial supporters of the Opera Studio. They appreciate the high quality of the program, the challenging projects it tackles and its broad community reach, as well as the opportunities and cultural experience it offers to so many young artists from the region. Through its sophisticated yet reasonably priced productions, the Studio is generating a new following for opera in Victoria. It greatly enhances the profile of the Conservatory and expands interest in serious music. For both participants and audience members, the Opera Studio has proven itself to be a valuable asset to the arts community.

Since a program of Self-Directed Studies is uniquely tailored to the individual student, it allows great flexibility in program structure, yet offers a focus to the course of study. A program of Self-Directed Studies is ideal for students preparing to audition for one the VCM’s postsecondary level programs, including the Diploma in Music Performance offered through the VCM’s partnership with Camosun College, and the Opera Studio or Advance Voice Workshop programs, offered through the Ann & George Nation Conservatory School of Classical Music.
