Open Space Presents: Eve Egoyan-Simple Lines of Enquiry
This is the first concert in the two-part series Short Series of Long Forms. Eve Egoyan, one of Canada’s most important pianists specializing in new works, will present Ann Southam’s eloquent and quietly emotional work, Simple Lines of Enquiry.
An exquisite performer, Eve will draw you into the music leaving you breathless. Come see why the National
Post describes her as “A performer whose powers of listening cast a hypnotic spell over her audiences, opening their ears and hearts…”.
Post describes her as “A performer whose powers of listening cast a hypnotic spell over her audiences, opening their ears and hearts…”.This work, written especially for Eve, has captivated audiences around the world. The New Yorker’s Alex Ross (author of The Rest is Noise) wrote “…I couldn’t stop listening to…Ann Southam’s immense, mysterious piano piece Simple Lines of Enquiry.” Southam’s piece relies on its slow unraveling to evoke a magically suspended sound world, its stillness and intimacy invites listeners into a space of deep listening and contemplation. It is almost as if one can hear Southam’s curiosity as she observes the unfolding sonorities, an unfolding which has been likened to a scientist following and watching the behaviours of an unknown organism.
Eve Egoyan’s performance of Simple Lines of Enquiry is one of those rare quiet journeys which will make you fall in love with sound all over again – a listening experience not to be missed.
*NEWS - Join Ms. Egoyan during the 2012 VCM Summer Piano Academy, July 2-13, where she will be in residence as a guest artist and faculty member. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to participate in lessons, masterclasses and workshops with one of today’s leading new music specialists.
