Department Head: Gordon Clements, Clarinet/Saxophone

Gord Clements, Head of Jazz Studies, teaches clarinet, saxophone, and improvisation. He is Artistic Director of the VCM’s Summer Jazz Workshop, conductor of the VCM Honour Winds & Percussion, and conductor of the VCM Honour Jazz Orchestra. Gord founded the UVic Big Band, the VCM/Camosun Diploma in Jazz program and the VCM Summer Jazz Workshop. He regularly performs with the Palm Court Orchestra, Victoria Operatic Society and a wide variety of jazz ensembles. His CDs include Above & Below (2003) with Neil Swainson and Misha Piatigorsky; Bounce (2004), with Don Thompson, Neil Swainson, and Misha Piatigorsky; and I Let a Song… (2005) with Louise Rose; and Run (2006) with the Gord Clements Collective.
