Self Directed Studies

Students of post-secondary age who wish to explore their musical interests may design an individualized program specific to their current goals and interests.

Since a program of Self-Directed Studies is uniquely tailored to the individual student, it allows great flexibility in program structure, yet offers a focus to the course of study. Students use the Self-Directed Studies program to enhance their own individual understanding and practice of music, increase their skills in a first instrument/voice, begin a second instrument, study music theory, musicianship, music history, and participate in chamber music and large ensembles.

A program of Self-Directed Studies is ideal for students preparing to audition for one of the three full-time Post-Secondary programs.

Regular VCM performance and theory examinations can be completed as outlined in the relevant syllabus. A certificate in individual subjects may be earned by completing a full program of co-requisites.

Interested students who possess the necessary prerequisite skills may be allowed to enrol in courses offered as a part of the three Camosun/VCM Post-Secondary Programs on a space available basis.

Contact the Registrar of Post-Secondary Programs if you wish to receive more information or to apply for Self-Directed Studies:
