Kelly Nordstrom

Kelly Avril Nordstrom is native to Canada’s West Coast and is well known as a gifted producer and educator. Most recently, Kelly celebrated the award winning debut release of his studio collaboration with the band “Sound of Contact”, featuring Simon Collins, Dave Kerzner and Matt Dorsey entitled “Dimensionaut”. SoC (Sound of Contact) was mixed by Producer Nick Davis (Genesis, Tony Banks, Mike + the Mechanics, XTC, Marillion…) and received the prestigious “Limelight Award” at the “Progressive Music Awards 2013” held in the UK, marking an important touchstone of Kelly’s musical and technical abilities. An introduction to Hawaii’s small but mighty musical export! Students will learn to strum chords and accompany songs, gradually working toward proficient note-reading in a fun and supportive class environment.

Douglas Hensley

Douglas Hensley is an ecclectic and versatile musician who enjoys teaching students of all levels and ages, helping them develop a solid technique which will enable them to play whatever kind of music they choose. Since 2001, he has served with the Victoria Symphony on guitar, lute, mandolin, and banjo, and in 2008 joined Pacific Opera Victoria in Regina. For intermediate to advanced players Grade 4-7. Quartet and other ensemble repertoire will be explored, with an emphasis on rehearsal techniques and fretboard theory review, in addition to diverse repertoire.

VCM Harp Ensemble

Open to intermediate and advanced pedal harpists between the ages of 12 and 18 to provide an opportunity for dedicated young harpists to rehearse and perform together. Instruments are provided for VCM students only.

Annabelle Stanley

Annabelle Stanley

Annabelle Stanley is the principal harpist of the Victoria Symphony, a position she has held since 1982. During this time she has frequently been featured as a soloist with the Orchestra. She is also an active chamber musician, soloist and performer of new music. Annabelle is the harp instructor at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and UVIC. She has adjudicated harp students throughout Western Canada. Last year she made a CD with the great American Bassist Gary Karr of familiar classics arranged for Bass and Harp.

DEXINE WALLBANK was a member of The Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and also played with the National Ballet Orchestra of Canada, both in Toronto. Apart from the years she spent in eastern Canada, Dexine has played with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra since she was twenty years old. Over the years she has also played with various chamber groups including the early music group, Victoria Festival Consort. Dexine received Suzuki teacher training form the Suzuki Kingston institute as well as the Guelph Suzuki institute. Vocal Jazz Ensemble

For ages 17 and up, accompanied by a full rhythm section. Singers receive instruction in performance technique, improvisation, intonation and vocal independence. Vocalists should have strong music reading skills and part-singing ability. Acceptance by audition.

Louise Rose

Louise Rose has been called a living Canadian treasure. She studied classical voice in Pennsylvania with John Duddy and Todd Duncan; pipe organ with Catharine Brooke Morgan; piano with Oscar Peterson; conducting with Leonard Bernstein and arranging with Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington. Some of her independent studies have been with Carmen McRae, Ella Fitgerald and B.B. King. She has served as artist/mentor in residence at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA and at The Frank DeMiero and Soundsation Vocal Jazz Camps.
