This is an accelerated course, designed for students with beginning levels of understanding in music theory and musicianship, but little formal theory background. This course will cover rudiments, ear-training, melody writing, and introductory harmony. We will start at the beginning and work through the material as quickly as possible. The goal will be to be cover an entire level of rudiments & ear-training per term. Applicants must have a minimum of grade 6 or equivalent in their instrument or voice and be at least 16 years of age. This course will provide students with a solid foundation for future studies in harmony and musicianship.

Crystal is a theory and musicianship instructor at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, where she coordinates theory programming for the School of Music Technology and Creativity. Crystal teaches group classes as well as individual lessons at the VCM, and has taught theory and musicianship classes for the VCM/Camosun College Diploma program. She is the co-author of three publications for the Royal Conservatory of Music, and is the Artistic Director of Theory Programs for the VCM Summer Academy.
