The VCM Student Card

Each student registered for individual lessons will be issued a VCM Student Card upon registration, valid for the academic year or the term in which the student is registered.

Privileges and benefits of the VCM Student Card include:

  • Use of practice studios (when available – see the VCM front desk for information)
  • Participation in the Saturday noon concerts, and in certain ensembles and master classes at a reduced fee or at no charge;
  • Free admission to our VCM Presents – Conservatory Concert Series. Free or reduced admission for most other Conservatory concerts;

NOTE: Students in group classes receive a VCM Group Participation Card that comes with a few less benefits. Inquire at the VCM front desk for more information.

Practice Rooms

Students registered with the VCM may use VCM practice rooms, subject to availability. Policies for practice rooms and assigned keys are available at the main VCM office. Practice rooms can be requested during the following times:

Monday to Friday:
By request at the main VCM office – 8:30am to 5:00pm
By request through the VCM custodial staff – 5:00pm to 9:30pm

Saturday:
By request at the main VCM office – 9:00am to 4:00pm
By request through the VCM custodial staff – 4:00pm to 5:30pm

Sunday:
By request through the VCM custodial staff – 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Keys to practice rooms/teaching studios are signed out at the front desk for use during a specific period and returned immediately after the practice/teaching session. A deposit is required for the Wood Hall green room key and the Faculty Lounge, and there is a charge for all lost keys.

VCM Library

A library of over 7,000 items is maintained at the Conservatory for the use of faculty and registered students. Resources include music for all instruments, reference books on music history, technique and composers, as well as an extensive collection of CDs and LPs that can be borrowed.

Computers with internet access are available for research. We also provide listening stations attached to our Userful Discover Station.

Student Lounge

Main Floor Lounge (All students)
The Student Lounge on the main floor at the end of the ramp is for all students, and contains a fridge as well as beverage and snack machines. There is a complimentary telephone for local calls only.

Wood Hall Green Room (Post Secondary Students)
Students in post secondary programs at the VCM (Diploma Program, Foundation Year and Teacher Training) may see the front counter staff regarding access to the Wood Hall Green Room.

Lockers

Lockers are located throughout the VCM, and are subject to availability on a first come first served basis. Locker use is for registered Post-Secondary students without charge, however students provide their own combination locks. Please inquire at the VCM main office for information about how to obtain a locker.
