The Children’s Music Journey is one of the newest and most innovative approaches to learning music currently in use by over 80,000 participants world-wide, including six elementary schools in the Greater Victoria area through the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
Award-winning computer software flips the traditional approach to learning music and puts the student in the composer’s chair from the first lesson. Famous composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Joplin come to life through animation, and lead children through creative music lessons that teach all the fundamentals of music through fun musical games and activities, including playing together as an ensemble using virtual instruments. Each child works at their own computer station with attached electronic music keyboard.
VCM trained music instructors work in collaboration with school teachers using the Children’s Music Journey software on existing school computers with portable electronic piano keyboards to bring the many benefits of music to children in the community who would not otherwise have access to it.
By building partnerships with funding and community organizations, our goal is to ensure that those in under-served communities can experience the joy and benefit of music. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia, Island Savings division of First West Credit Union, and the City of Victoria for our outreach Children’s Music Journey program.
