2021 VCM Student Summer Success

We’re proud to share the success from several VCM students during the 2021 summer!

 

2021 National Music Festival – Federation of Canadian Music Festivals (FCMF)

 

Grand Award Winner- Lexie Krakowski 

  • Overall award winner: This winner is chosen out of all the first-place winners in every discipline of the Emerging Artist Category: Piano, Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Musical Theatre, Voice, and Strings
  • Lexie is a student of Brian Yoon, having previously worked with Paula Kiffner and Karen Whyte. She is a Young Artists Collegium Alum (2014-21).

 

First Place Winner (Emerging Artist, Strings) – Lexie Krakowski
  • This winner is the first place winner chosen out of all the Strings competitors in the Emerging Artist Stream, 30 years and under, advanced repertoire.
Second Place Winner (Emerging Artist, Piano) – Johnathan Devey
  • This winner is the second place winner chosen out of all the Piano competitors in the Emerging Artist Stream, 30 years and under, advanced repertoire.
  • Johnathan is a student of May Ling Kwok and a Collegium Alumn (2016-17).
Third Place Winner (Emerging Artist, Piano) – Boyana Makedonska 
  • This winner is the third place winner chosen out of all of the Piano competitors in the Emerging Artist Stream, 30 years and under, advanced repertoire.
  • Boyana is a student of May Ling Kwok.
First Place Winner (Developing Artist, Piano) – Eu-Rway Chew 
  • This winner is the first place winner chosen out of the Piano competitors in the Developing Artist Stream, 18 years and under, intermediate repertoire.
  • Eu-Rway is a student of Ingrid Henderson.

 

2021 National Competition – Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association (CFMTA)

Most Promising Artist – Johnathan Devey
The Ernst Schneider Canadian Music Award – Jamie Phillips-Freedman
  • Jamie is a student of Dr. Yoomi Kim.

 

2021 International Music Festival and Competition

First Place Violin Concerto – Deniz Guliyeva 

  • Deniz is a student of Tatiana Kostour.
