Elana Lin Spark to Flame ConcertElana started playing violin at the age of 7 and is in Grade 10 at Mount Doug Secondary School. She is in her second year of studying with Simon MacDonald and have previously worked with Tatiana Kostour and Catheryn Kennedy. Elana has been part of the Collegium Young Artists Program since September 2017, the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra since September of 2019 and has received awards from the VCM and Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival

Why did you apply to perform at Spark to Flame?

I thought that it would be an amazing opportunity for me to perform and work with others. Being a part of orchestra over the past few years inspired me to imagine what it would be like to play a solo work with an orchestra.

What piece are you performing and why did you choose it?

I am performing Bach Violin concerto no.1 A minor, 3rd movement. Besides being stylistically difficult for me, this piece presents different characters and challenges that would help me improve.

What are your aspirations in music?

I have hopes to pursue a music performance degree after high school.
