SUMMARY:ChoirKids and Arbutus Singers Concert- Let Our Voices Shine
DESCRIPTION:Entrance to this event in Alix Goolden Performance Hall is at the Victoria Conservatory of Music at 900 Johnson Street. \nEntrance: $20 suggested donation \nDonate to ChoirKids \n\n\nAbout the Concert\nJoin us for an uplifting afternoon of music as ChoirKids and the Arbutus Singers come together for Let Our Voices Shine—a joyful celebration of community\, connection\, and the power of singing together. \n\nCo-hosted by Jack Boomer and Annika Sauser\, this concert showcases singers of all ages\, from young voices just beginning their musical journey to seasoned performers united by a shared love of music. Audiences can look forward to a vibrant and diverse program featuring beloved classics and contemporary favourites\, including music by Carole King\, Ike & Tina Turner\, Bruno Mars\, and selections from Moana and The Greatest Showman. \n\nHarmony In The Making – The Arbutus Story\nEstablished in 1998 by Jack Boomer\, the Arbutus Singers has blossomed from a modest group of 15 singers to a flourishing choir of over 60 members. Rehearsals are held regularly at the Wellesley of Victoria\, providing a communal space where they come together to hone our skills and create music. As a versatile choir with 4 to 6 parts\, they take pride in diverse repertoire. This blend of genres ensures that our performances offer something for everyone. The Arbutus Singers are more than just a musical ensemble – they are a tight-knit diverse community united by their shared passion for music and commitment to spreading joy through our performances. Whether they are singing at local events\, retirement homes\, or community gatherings\, their mission remains the same: to uplift spirits and create lasting memories through music. \n\nChoirKids\nThe concept of ChoirKids came from the Arbutus Singers’ desire to provide kids with the opportunity to sing in a non-auditioned choir\, in communities that might not currently offer it\, simply for fun and for free. Spearheaded by Jack Boomer and Jane Cowell\, five members of the Arbutus Singers came together to form the Arbutus Singers Music Education Society in 2006. The goal\, through a non-profit organization\, was to establish children and youth choirs in the Greater Victoria area. The Society received charitable status in 2008. Through this educational program\, they provide funding and personnel to develop and support children’s choirs in Victoria schools. Over the years\, they have raised more than $400\,000 for a variety of charitable organizations\, with a significant portion secured through grants in support of ChoirKids. \n\nIn 2015\, the Victoria Conservatory of Music was asked and agreed to adopt this wonderful program and since then\, the ChoirKids program has touched the lives of over 2\,000 young children across 8 local Elementary schools and continues to thrive as one of the VCM’s key music programs for children. ChoirKids is delivered tuition-free into participating local Elementary schools through the Conservatory’s Children’s Music Outreach. The program operates under the artistic leadership lead Instructor/Choir Director Annika Sauser. \n\nChoirKids is a non-auditioned choir program delivered through the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Music Outreach Program\, into local Victoria Elementary schools. ChoirKids focuses on singing for fun\, to foster love and appreciation for music. All music is learnt by ear and may include at times light choreography. Weekly rehearsals provide a range of “warm-up” games\, and repertoire is drawn from popular folk tunes\, and contemporary music\, sung either in unison\, or in two parts. Piano\, guitar\, and/or ukulele accompaniment is provided where appropriate\, and end of term performance opportunities are arranged in coordination with all ChoirKids groups and the Arbutus Singers. \n\nWith Thanks\nThank you to Jack Boomer\, the Arbutus Singers\, Annika Sauser\, Anna Lyman\, and all our ChoirKids for sharing your voices and spirit\, and for bringing this musical community together. \n\n \n\nVenue Accessibility\nThe 900 Johnson Street entrance is wheelchair accessible at street level. There’s a drop-off zone out front\, elevator access inside\, and several accessible washrooms\, including a gender-neutral washroom. \n\nFor priority seating or other accommodations\, contact us in advance. \n\nFor full details\, visit vcm.bc.ca/plan-your-visit

Students also play in String or Full Orchestra\, receive credits for theory lessons\, and there is a special Piano Plus program for piano students. \n\nThe Senior Program offers more advanced training for students playing at a high level\, with increased artistic independence\, more challenging repertoire\, and more performance opportunities. Senior students meet twice per week: on Mondays for chamber music coachings\, masterclasses\, and performance classes\, and a second day for chamber music rehearsals at a time chosen by each group. \n\nContact Us\nCan’t make the Academy Info Session? Doors open at 7:00pm \n \n\n\n\nThe Australian virtuoso recently described as ‘the finest guitar player of this generation\,’ has been selling out concerts around the globe — and in the spring of 2026\, he’ll bring his now-famed live show to intimate venues across Western Canada! \n\n\n\n“Do whatever it takes to get in the front row!” – Rhythms Magazine\, Australia\n\n“A generational talent that must be seen to be believed.” – Roots Magazine\, UK\n\nDon’t miss your chance to see live music at its finest! \n\nDaniel Champagne lives and breathes music. Playing upwards of 250 concerts around the world each year\, he is as loved globally as he is in his homeland of Australia. His signature guitar style and formidable stage show have garnered accolades and dedicated fans worldwide. \n\nGrowing up in the Bega Valley on the Far South Coast of New South Wales\, the story goes that the young artist first picked up his instrument of choice at age five\, following in the footsteps of his musical father. He began writing songs at twelve\, trained classically throughout his teens\, and performed wherever he could — honing his craft and developing the electric live show that he is renowned for today. At eighteen\, he finished school\, turned professional\, and hit the road without looking back. \n\nThe following eighteen years have seen him release seven studio albums\, sell out concerts across the globe\, play some of the biggest festivals under the sun\, and share stages with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel\, INXS\, John Butler\, Lucinda Williams\, Ani DiFranco\, Judy Collins\, and Rodrigo y Gabriela. \n\nExpect jaw-dropping guitar skills\, songs that carry the heart away\, and the stories of a troubadour that will stay with you long after the last note rings out — a Daniel Champagne show is not just a concert\, it’s an experience. \n\nWhat the Press Say\n\n“The word ‘prodigy’ seems to entirely fall short of this soft-spoken young man’s skills. He coaxes sounds and melodies out of his instrument that literally drop jaws.” – The Calgary Herald\, Canada \n\n“Today I saw the future of folk — festival-goers flocking in the thousands towards the main stage to witness a young musical phenomenon from Australia dish out an absolute show-stopper.” – The Firefly Column\, USA \n\n“A generational talent.” – Roots Magazine\, UK \n\n“Daniel Champagne is a crossroads\, fusing the strong traditions of blues\, folk\, and other roots art with pop showmanship and admirable lyrical ability. I firmly believe that he will become an ambassador for roots music in a time where it desperately needs representation.” – The Indie Blender\, Canada \n\n“Reinventing roots guitar.” – Rhythms Magazine\, Australia \n\n“Watching Daniel Champagne perform is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He is a true prodigy who plays like no one else could possibly play unless they spent at least two lifetimes studying the art.” – BW Review\, New Zealand \n\n“Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage\, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably carry the heart with grand romanticism. Coupled with anexhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band\, Champagne is simply magical.” – TheMusic\, Australia \n\n“You feel as if he just invented the instrument yesterday and was discovering its possibilities afresh.” – Ted Gioia\, American jazz critic and music \n\n\nVenue Accessibility\n\nThe 900 Johnson Street entrance is wheelchair accessible at street level.
