DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\nJoin us for an enjoyable afternoon of music\, featuring final performances by the talented young musicians of the Strings Summer Intensive Program. \n\nThe first part will be comprised of solo performances from each of the participants\, followed by Chamber Music and Orchestra performances. The break in between sections will be approximately 30 minutes. \n\nNOTE: For this concert\, the entrance to Alix Goolden Performance Hall is at 900 Johnson Street. Admission by donation.

SUMMARY:Fine Cello Demonstration and Educational Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday afternoon 24th June at the Victoria Conservatory of Music for a Fine Cello Demonstration and Educational Workshop co-presented by the Conservatory Strings Department and Talbot Antique Cellos. The event runs from 1 to 5pm in the Wood Hall. \n\nDavid Talbot from Talbot Antique Cellos will be presenting a number of fine antique and contemporary cellos & bows from England\, France\, Germany\, Italy\, Czechoslovakia\, Poland and Canada. \n\nCellos will include: \n\n\n	Thomas Kennedy Workshop\, London\, England c 1825\n	Collin-Mezin ‘Paolo Giacomelli’ (JTL)\, Mirecourt\, France c.1910\n	John Juzek ‘Master Art’\, Prague\, Czechoslovakia 1931\n	Dario Aguzzi ‘Guarneri’\, Vidigulfo\, Italy 2015\n	Hugh Sutherland ‘Bear Claw’\, Victoria\, Canada 1980\n\n\nCello bows will include some from (now retired) local master archetier; Reid Hudson. \n\nAttendees wanting to try the instruments & bows are encouraged to contact Talbot Antique Cellos prior to the event at tacellos@shaw.ca or 250 818 8487 to reserve a time slot. ‘Break out’ rooms will be available. \n\nVictoria Conservatory of Music faculty & retired Victoria Symphony cellist Martin Bonham will be on hand to answer questions & offer advice about ‘choosing the right cello & bow for me’. \n\nSeasoned local luthier Travis Short of Swinglow Strings will be available to talk about ‘good practices for maintaining\, what to look for & mistakes to avoid when choosing a cello’. \n\nThis is a great opportunity for Victoria Conservatory of Music cello students to deepen their knowledge around their chosen instrument. \n\nCellists of all skill levels are welcome to attend. \n\nAdmission is free for this event.
