SUMMARY:Neuztec 9 Festival -Experimental Sound Design and Multimedia Technology
DESCRIPTION:Entry for this concert will be at The Victoria Conservatory of Music – 900 Johnson Street. The balcony is closed for this event. \n\n\n\nNEUZTEC:  FRIDAY\, NOVEMBER 15th:  7PM to 10PM – ALIX GOOLDEN PERFORMANCE HALL \nfeaturing… \n\nDEADBEAT & MIKE SHANNON (BLKRTZ / Cynosure Records\, Berlin): \nDeadbeat is one Scott Monteith\, who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden\, minimal electronics since 2000 for labels such as Cynosure\, Intr_version\, Revolver\, and Scape. Deadbeat has performed at some of the world’s most respected festivals\, including Barcelona’s Sonar\, Berlin’s Transmediale\, and Montreal’s own Mutek\, and most recently a festival favorite at Wonderment.  Scott has worked in a variety of roles for the Montreal based company Applied Acoustics Systems\, makers of the Tassman Software Synthesizer.  The experience left him with a passion for the development of new creative interfaces\, and a strong grasp of some the most cutting edge technology in the industry.  Whether crafting quirky not-quite-dancefloor techno\, rumbling digital dub\, or sublime ambient works\, Scott continually strives to create music that honors the past beyond empty tribute or cultural appropriation\, by infusing the digital tools of the present with a little of the magic known as human imperfection. Hindered only by the occasional buffer underrun or synapse misfiring\, Scott continues to search for his own unique voice between the ones and zeros. \n\nMike Shannon:  Any historian who takes it upon themselves to pen the tale of Canadian electronic in the years to come will most certainly find the name Mike Shannon figures early and often in it’s telling. From his humble beginnings in the sleepy suburban town of Kitchener Ontario\, the last 15 years have seen him become an internationally lauded producer with albums on 3 of the industry’s most respected labels (Plus 8\, Force Inc\, ~Scape)\, as well as a steady stream of consistently charted singles and remixes.  Those fortunate enough to catch one of Mike’s rare live performances are encouraged to do so with an open mind\, as it is in this context that the breadth of his creativity truly shines. His is a musical vision which easily wriggles free of the usual genre signifiers and pays grand dividends to those with the good sense to get nice and close to the speakers; the devil is most certainly in the details as the old saying goes. \n\nOn Friday\, November 15th\, Deadbeat and Mike Shannon perform an immersive and collaborative set of live electronic music.  This will be their first time performing live together in Western Canada.\nhttps://blkrtz.bandcamp.com/album/the-lichen-diaries-vol-1\nhttps://mikeshannon1.bandcamp.com/album/cygnus-sutra-2 \n\nLONGWALKSHORTDOCK with RIM VISUALS (Vancouver): \nLongwalkshortdock essentially started the first time Dave King heard gritty electronic music in early eighties videogames. Strongly influenced by these sounds and melodies\, Dave started recording and looping segments as a child. Currently a veteran of sound design and electronic music production for well over a decade\, Longwalkshortdock’s music has stepped into a genre of its own. His vast catalogue of hundreds of songs dives into ambient\, IDM\, electro\, acid\, house\, big beat\, indie rock\, drones\, electronica and down tempo. Dave holds two degrees from the Art Institute of Burnaby for Music Recording and Production. \n\nLongwalkshortdock has performed live for many years\, on many stages\, and with the likes of Phil Western (Download\, Skinny Puppy\, Kone) and opened for talented artists like\, MSTRKRFT\, Opiuo\, Junkie XL\, Vibesquad\, Alex Patterson (The Orb)\, Mimosa\, Adam Freeland.  Always working to enhance and upgrade the LWSD live experience\, Dave collaborates with veteran of visual wizardry Tim Hill of RIM Visuals.  While a mainstay on the BC club and festival circuit for his unique EDM performances that verge on metal\, Longwalkshortdock has also been renown for rare sets of ambient music – which he will perform on November 15th at Alix Goolden Hall. \n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXhe8Z4uJ1M&t=822s \n\nSCREE RUNNING (Victoria): \n\nA speculative rendering of what a consumer grade stasis chamber made in 2169 called ‘Somnolent X’ would sound like. Constructed using AI voice models\, field recordings taken from around lək̓ʷəŋən territories\, and FM synthesizers.  Scree Running is a member of the Resonance Collective.  They will be performing live.\nhttps://screerunning.bandcamp.com/track/somnolent-x \n\nTELURK: \nTELURK is an experimental music project that delves into the ethereal realms of sound\, utilizing the theremin and Moog synthesizers to create immersive sonic landscapes. Inspired by the concept of rainbow hypogea\, TELURK explores the interplay of light and sound\, crafting intricate textures that transport listeners to otherworldly dimensions. The project emphasizes dynamic improvisation\, blending organic and electronic elements to evoke a range of emotions. Through captivating performances\, TELURK invites audiences to experience a unique auditory journey\, celebrating the limitless possibilities of experimental music and the transformative power of sound. Join TELURK in exploring the depths of sonic creativity. \n\nϸόKA: \nϸόKA (pronounced “thoka”) is Michael Benneyworth.  Spending a large part of his childhood playing with reel-to-reel tape and listening to shortwave radio\, it was inevitable that sound creation and manipulation would be part of Michael Benneyworth’s multidisciplinary artistic practice. His sound art works are concerned with the sounds themselves: ways of creating sounds\, how sounds inform space\, and assembled sound collages rather than song forms.  Past works include the construction of acoustic devices ranging from small instruments to large installations. Michael’s current projects are focused on the recording and performance of electronic music. He has performed both solo and with numerous experimental music groups. He is on the board of the GCEMS and has been a member of the Unity Drummers and Singers since 2005. \n\nAbout NeuzTec: \nNeuzTec is a festival of experimental sound design and multimedia technology\, currently in its 9th edition for 2024.  In addition to this event\, NeuzTec will also present live performances from 2pm to 10pm on Saturday\, November 16th at Wood Hall (VCM / 900 Johnson; admission is $20 at the door); and workshops on Sunday\, November 17th (900 Johnson; FREE).\nNeuzTec is presented by the Garden City Electronic Music Society and the Victoria Conservatory of Music\, and supported by the City of Victoria\, the Government of Canada\, the Capital Regional District\, Open Space Gallery\, and Long and McQuade. \n\nVenue Accessibility\nThe 900 Johnson Street entrance is at ground-level and wheelchair accessible. SUMMARY:Constantinople Re: Orient
DESCRIPTION:Entry for this concert is at The Victoria Conservatory of Music – 900 Johnson Street. The Balcony is closed for this event. \n\n\n\nOrient immerses us at the crossroads of the fascinating aesthetics of Korean Pansori and Persian music\, exploring these two “Orients” rich in cultures and sophisticated millennial musical heritages. Virtuoso musicians of Constantinople together alongside their fabulous guests from Korea explore various modes and rhythms\, imagining new musical landscapes where the five cardinal directions—East\, West\, North\, South\, and Center—create a narrative illustrated with Pansori tales and Persian poems by Rumi and Hafez. \n\nThis creates a land where spirits and souls meet\, and the stories of the two Orients converse\, with the microtonality of the Pansori and Persian musical modes at the heart of this dialogue. \n\nKiya Tabassian\, Setar & Artistic director //Jeong Sang Hui\, Pansori //Didem Başar\, Kanun //Oh Byung Og\, Daegeum //Patrick Graham\, Percussions //Hamin Honari\, Percussions //Lee Sang Hwa\, Sori-buk //Etienne Lafrance\, Double bassist. \n\n\n\nVenue Accessibility\nThe 900 Johnson Street entrance is at ground-level and wheelchair accessible. SUMMARY:Ozan Ardic: Debut Concert Tour
DESCRIPTION:Entrance for this show is on 900 Johnson Street\n\n\n\nBorn in Baku\, Ozan Ardic is a concert composer with a background in fortepiano performance. Embracing a puristic philosophy\, Ozan organizes his compositions into individual opus numbers\, each offering a glimpse into his life. These works provide a purely audible experience\, devoid of additional subtext\, labels\, or extramusical context. By omitting names\, titles\, or accompanying artwork for his compositions\, Ozan aims to let each listener engage with the music on a deeply personal level\, free from external influence. This approach invites listeners to discover their own meanings and emotional connections within each piece. Their attention and appreciation help each opus find its true place within the larger narrative of Ozan’s artistic journey. Since 2012\, Canada has become Ozan’s second home\, where he was warmly welcomed. Proud to stand among his fellow Canadians\, he has dedicated his debut tour to the country that embraced him. \n\nThe concert program opens with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Pathétique and Moonlight Sonatas\, works by one of the most influential composers for Ozan growing up and a fitting musical complement to this program. \n\nWatch Ozan perform Opus 4 (Intermezzo) on Youtube.
