Xiaotian Liu
Xiaotian Liu, MT-BC, MFA, has recently joined the Victoria Conservatory’s faculty as music therapist, specializing in adult and elder care.
Growing up in Xi’an, China, Xiaotian’s passion for music ignited at a young age. She began her musical journey with the piano, and her love for creating melodies has never faded. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from the University of Kansas, Xiaotian became a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). She’s worked in a variety of settings, from the quiet bedside of hospice patients to the vibrant classrooms of special education programs. Her work in hospice care was showcased on the big screen in the documentary/drama film ‘The Coming Days,’ which debuted in mainland China in summer 2024.
Inspired by the profound connections she formed with hospice patients and their families through songwriting, Xiaotian sought to share the power of music with a wider audience. She pursued a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts (Music) at the California Institute of Integral Studies and founded Songift, a program that helps individuals without musical backgrounds to uncover their emotions, find solace, and share their deepest feelings and stories through the healing experience of songwriting.
Beyond her music therapy practice, Xiaotian is an independent songwriter and vocalist. She won the championship of ETTV top star 2021, and is a contract vocalist and songwriter at Yang Music, Ltd.
