Aisling Ryan-Aylward

BMus (Uvic), BMT (CapU)

Aisling Ryan-Aylward (Ash-ling) is an Accredited Music Therapist (MTA). Her love of singing lead her to complete a Bachelor of Music with Comprehensive Classical Voice at the University of Victoria in 2014. Her fascination with psychology paired well with her love of music, which lead her to the field of Music Therapy where she completed a Bachelor of Music Therapy with Distinction at Capilano University.

Aisling’s passion for wellness and balance has influenced her work to create experiences in which seniors may strengthen their resources, build social connections, and simply enjoy themselves through music. Aisling incorporates active music making, reminiscence, and adapted song-writing into her work with dementia care. Aisling continues to work with children through the satellite program at the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music, and enjoys facilitating experiences where each child has the opportunity to find success through musical connection.

During her practicum experiences, Aisling worked with seniors at a pyscho-geriatric facility which included various levels of dementia, mental health, and behavioural challenges. Aisling has worked with children with Learning Language Disabilities, as well as with women who have mental health challenges, substance abuse, and trauma. These placements have armed Aisling with a variety of experiences that educate her approach and practice.

Aisling’s love of theatre and performing lead her to complete her ATCL Associate Diploma in Performing Speech & Drama with Distinction through Trinity College in London in 2008. Aisling’s interest in the unconscious and its relationship to music lead her to begin her GIM Training with Liz Moffitt.
