BMus (UVic)

Simon Farintosh teaches Classical guitar at the VCM’s main location in Victoria, and both Classical and Popular-Contemporary guitar at the VCM’s new Westhills location.

Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, he made his debut as a classical guitarist at the age of nine. His interest in the instrument and its repertoire grew steadily throughout his youth and spent his formative years at the Victoria Conservatory of Music studying under Stephen Lochbaum, Bradford Werner, and Dr. Alexander Dunn.

He was accepted into undergraduate programs at the University of Arizona and the University of Victoria. He is currently studying at UVic with Dr. Dunn, and has performed in masterclasses with Pepe Romero, Kazuhito Yamashita, Roland Dyens, Professor Chen Zhi, and Jorge Caballero.

Simon has recently become active in guitar competitions, taking 1st prizes at local and provincial festivals three times consecutively, 2nd place at the 2015 Canadian National Music Festival in Edmonton, Alberta, and 2nd place at the 2017 Northwest Guitar Festival & Competition in Portland, Oregon. He currently maintains an active teaching schedule, and his students have received top prizes in the local and provincial performing arts festivals, as well as excellent scores on RCM exams.
