Music for Mardi Gras brought New Orleans to Victoria

On Tuesday, January 26th in the Alix Goolden Performance Hall amazing VCM faculty musicians brought the energy and flavour of New Orleans to the stage. It was a diverse and dynamic Mardi Gras celebration featuring everything from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess Fantasy for two piano to When the Saints Go Marching In.

Cathy Fern Lewis, accompanied by Robert Holliston, put us in A Sentimental Mood followed by ‘They Can’t Take That Away From Me’, ‘Blue Moon’ and ‘La Vie En Rose’.

Anna Cal and Roger Buksa delivered a wonderful intensity on Porgy and Bess.

During the second half we learned a little about Louise Rose’s family life and Damian Graham educated the audience on a subtle beat variation that helped drive the passion within the hit song ‘Poinciana’.

Big thanks to everyone on the stage and those who helped fill up our hall with such great energy.

See you again on March 17, when we welcome Janina Fialkowska to Alix Goolden Hall.
