Michael Wilford

Michael Wilford grew up playing drums in the rich and diverse musical network of Northern British Columbia. From a young age Michael was inspired and taught by many musical mentors including Mike Doogan-Smith and his Smithers Secondary School Band Program, Leslie Jean McMillan and the dynamic father-son duo of Richard and Jake Jenne. Judith Pazder

Judith Pazder graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance. She has taught in Windsor, Halifax and Vancouver, where she founded the Millennium Flute Ensemble. Judith is on faculty at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and has been the director of the Academy Flute Choir for the past 10 years. Judith is also involved in recorder teaching, study and performance.

Academy Flute Choir

Open to flutists of all ages to play music written for large and small “orchestras” of flutes. The choir provides an opportunity to learn to play bass flute, alto flute and/or piccolo. For players with strong ensemble and playing skills. A Grade 4 RCM level is recommended.

The BC Fiddle Orchestra began with a small group of talented and enthusiastic young violinists from Daniel Lapp’s studio. The first performance, in 1994, was at the Opening Ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games.

Children’s Music Journey (Outreach Only)

One of the newest and most innovative approaches to learning music is made possible through the Children’s Music Journey. Award-winning computer software flips the traditional approach to learning music and puts the student in the composer’s chair from the first lesson. Famous composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Joplin come to life through animation, and lead children through creative music lessons that teach all the fundamentals of music through fun musical games and activities, including playing together as an ensemble using virtual instruments.

Laura Wood

Laura Wood has played piano since 4 years of age. She studied at the Conservatory beginning at five years of age with Ivy Screech. Starting at nine years old, she studied with Edward Parker obtaining consistently high marks in her exams. She successfully completed the teacher training program with her AVCM and first class honours. She particularly loves teaching children and adult beginners, and in addition to her studio teaching, offers piano group instruction at the VCM.
