PIANO
- Victoria Conservatory piano students from the studios of Roger Buksa, Susan de Burgh, Ingrid Henderson, Robert Holliston, May Ling Kwok, and Jany Lu took part in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, playing beautifully in the concluding Highlights Concert and winning too many awards to list here.
- Winner of the City of Victoria Medallion was Carey Wang (a student of May Ling Kwok), who was also selected to represent Victoria at the B.C. Provincials. Carey was also a recent winner of the UVic School of Music Concerto Competition (playing Chopin’s Concerto no. 1 in E minor, Op. 11), as well as the Johann Strauss Foundation Scholarship – which will help enable him to attend classes at the Salzburg Mozarteum – and will represent Victoria in the Provincial level of the B.C. Registered Music Teachers’ Association Mary Adamson Competition in September.
- Filbert Zhang, also a student of May Ling Kwok, won the Don Chrysler Concerto Competition and will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 2 in B flat major with the Sooke Philharmonic next season.
- Felicia Ma, a student of Ingrid Henderson, was invited to participate in the Chilliwack Symphony and Chorus Piano Extravaganza, held at Christ Church Cathedral Vancouver on May 24, 2024. Felicia will also be attending classes at the Salzburg Mozarteum this summer.
