We are thrilled to announce that applications for the Spark to Flame Student Showcase are now open! This exciting event provides an exceptional opportunity for students of the Victoria Conservatory of Music to showcase their talent and share their passion for music with our vibrant community.
What is Spark to Flame?
The annual Spark to Flame concert is presented by the Ann & George Nation Conservatory School of Classical Music. This program is designed to support the development of emerging artists and is open to all current students of the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
The Spark to Flame orchestra features the Conservatory School’s student Chamber Orchestra, complemented by talented members of the Conservatory’s faculty and other local professional orchestral musicians. Together, they create a high-caliber experience for both the student musicians in the orchestra and the promising student soloists selected through an audition process.
The program emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility in creating a professional performance. In the weeks leading up to the Spark to Flame concert, participating soloists will have the invaluable opportunity to collaborate with Conservatory faculty and artistic staff to enhance their professional and artistic skills. Additionally, all student participants play a role in promoting the concert, fostering a sense of ownership and community engagement.
Who Can Apply?
Spark to Flame is open to all students to audition in the discipline they are currently studying at the Conservatory, provided they are registered in that discipline for either a minimum of twelve (12) 45-minute lessons, or equivalent, during each term of the academic year (i.e. Fall 2024 and Spring 2025), OR are enrolled in one of the following full-year programs: Young Artists Collegium, Postsecondary Diploma or Certificates. All applicants should be performing at a level suitable for professional orchestral accompaniment.

How to Apply
Apply for the Spark to Flame Student Showcase by completing the application page here. You will need to provide information about your musical background, the piece you wish to perform (consult with your instructor to select appropriate-level repertoire), and any other relevant details. The deadline for applications is November 8, 2024. Applicants will be notified of their individual audition time by November 15, 2024. Live auditions will take place on the mornings of Thursday, November 21, and Friday, November 22, 2024.What to Expect
Selected participants will have the opportunity to perform in a professionally produced concert, where they can showcase their talent and creativity. Additionally, participants will receive feedback from experienced faculty members, helping them grow as musicians and performers.
