With Deep Sadness, We Announce the Passing of Alexander Dunn

May 29, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed colleague, Dr. Alexander Dunn. His profound love for music and unwavering commitment to his art deeply impacted countless lives.

Many of our guitar faculty members were once students under Alex’s guidance, a testament to his exceptional mentorship. His dedication to excellence in teaching was reflected in the success of his students, who consistently achieved recognition and accolades at regional and national competitions. Alex was very passionate about raising awareness of emerging talent through performance opportunities locally and abroad, helping numerous young guitarists over the years become established.

With his many artistic connections throughout the world of Classical guitar extending far beyond our borders, he proudly led one of Canada’s premier guitar programs at the University of Victoria including the Guitar Summer Intensive Program offered through the Victoria Conservatory of Music, shaping the next generation of musicians with his wisdom and passion.

We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to Alexander’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. His contributions to our community will be remembered and cherished.
