Program Outline

Program outline
The Combos & Bands Mentorship Program offers musicians of all ages two exciting opportunities:

For existing combos and bands:
Come to the VCM and let our highly experienced industry professionals help get you and your band or combo to the next level! Develop your existing sound and/or style, explore something entirely new, tighten up your rhythm section, improve improvisation skills, develop a set list, or prep to record your first EP! Whether your band or combo is newly formed or has been jamming for years, our faculty mentors are happy to share their wealth of knowledge and experience with you, exploring wherever your musical preferences, including all areas of jazz, rock, folk, country, pop, blues, soul, R&B, and more!

Tuition for your group is $170 per 2-hour mentoring session (that’s just $34 each for a 5-piece combo or band), and includes use of VCM live sound equipment (amps, keyboard, drumkit, PA). A minimum of 4 sessions are recommended.

For more information and to schedule your sessions today, contact us at 250.386.5311 to be connected with Daniel Lapp, Artistic Director, Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music.

Join or create a combo or band:
If you are looking for the experience of playing in a live combo or band, or you are part of an existing duo or trio and wishing to expand, let us match you with musically likeminded and similarly skilled players, and our highly experienced industry professionals will take it from there! Your VCM mentor will help each student find and improve on their musical strengths, develop musicianship skills, and guide you through a wide variety of musical styles, including jazz standards to folk/singer-songwriter, blues, country, rock, R&B/Hip-Hop, indie, or wherever your interest lies.

Combos or bands newly formed at the VCM will typically be based on one to a part. (Ex. For Jazz combos: piano, guitar, voice, up to 2 horns and drums; for bands: lead, guitar, bass, keys/synth, and drumkit).

Tuition per person is $387 for 15, 90-minute weekly sessions (that’s just $25.80 per week, and includes use of VCM live sound equipment – amps, keyboard, drumkit, PA).

For more information or to sign up today, contact us at 250.386.5311 to be connected with Daniel Lapp, Artistic Director, Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music.
