Classical Keyboard

A dynamic and inspiring place with over two dozen instructors teaching students ranging from four years old to nearly 100, from the absolute beginner to the highly advanced.

About

The tradition of excellence in the keyboard department stems right back to the very roots of the Victoria Conservatory of Music, through the incredible teaching and leadership of Professor Robin Wood and Mrs. Winfred Scott Wood (pictured) our very first Principal and Vice Principal. Many of their former students are now members of our faculty and continue to uphold the highest standards set in place by their mentors.

What We Offer

Student and Alumni Accomplishments

  • Erik Lin, at nine years old, had been named the youngest ever “Young Soloist” to be featured at the Victoria Symphony Splash, which draws an estimated 40,000 audience members to the Inner Harbour each year.
  • Sarah MacDonald is the Director of Music at Selwyn College, a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in the U.K. She is also Director of the Girl Choristers at Ely Cathedral. Sarah has been at Selwyn since 1999, and is the first woman to hold such a post in an Oxbridge Chapel. A Victoria native, Sarah studied at the Victoria Conservatory of Music from 1981 to 1987.
  • Recognized operatic conductor Robert Tweten currently holds the position of Head of Music Staff for the Santa Fe Opera and is also the Music Director of Opera Studies for New England Conservatory. Starting in his early teens, Robert studied piano with Conservatory legends Winifred Scott Wood and Robin Wood.

At the Victoria Conservatory of Music, we are passionate about sharing our love of music so that you may enjoy every minute you spend at the keyboard.
