Angela Carter

Angela Carter joins the Victoria Conservatory of Music Faculty as an esteemed member of its Alumni, having started piano at the Victoria Conservatory in 1968 with Marjorie Tebo, and theory and ear training with Rodney Webster in 1971. Completing the Piano Teacher Training Program in Piano in 1980, receiving First Class Honours with Distinction, with Winifred Scott-Wood, Allen Reiser and Edward Parker, Angela completed the Victoria Conservatory/Camosun College Classical Piano Performance Program with Robin Wood, May-Ling Kwok and Alma Brock-Smith in 1982. Angela continued studies in jazz piano with Richard Bird and vocal training with Maureen Branch. Angela teaches piano for both the Conservatory School Classical Keyboard Dept, and the School of Contemporary Music, and both downtown and Westhills/Langford locations, as well as online.

Playing for choir in junior high and teaching since age 14, Angela has accompanied choral, vocal, instrumental, dance and church performances since her teens. Angela was musical director/accompanist for many musical theatre productions in Victoria, including CABARET, CHICAGO, THREE-PENNY OPERA AND GODSPELL. In the 80s, Angie played rock ‘n roll keyboard with DOC & THE DOO-WOPS and throughout the 90s led her own rock variety band on vocals and keyboards with BRAINCHILD. From 1995-2007 Angela played and sang with STRING OF PEARLS ladies jazz ensemble, including A level/ international shows and a CD.

Currently Angela leads her jazz trio CLUB SCIRROCO and variety duo THE WAYBACK WARBLERS. A popular seniors entertainer, Angela enjoys playing and singing her favourite classics at some of Victoria’s premier residences. And of course, she’s enjoying getting back to teaching piano again, her life-long passion!
