Jonathan Haek

Jonathan Haek is a composer and flutist originally from Portland, Oregon. Dr. Haek is Lead Instructor for Postsecondary Music Theory, and the VCM-Camosun Certificate in Music Technologies, for which he also continues as principal designer and developer.For the 17-18 and 18-19 academic years, also served as Director of the School of Music Technology and Creativity at the Victoria Conservatory of Music.

Jon’s interests lie at the intersections of music, math, and technology. His projects have involved collaboration with modern dance choreographers, free improvisation, interactive and computer music composition, and Fibonacci numbers as compositional tools. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Jon has earned a number of degrees: a D.M.A. in composition (2007) with a Music Theory Certificate (2005) from the University of Washington; a M.M. in composition (2002) from the University of Oklahoma; a B.A. in Flute Performance (2000) from Oregon State University; and a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences (2000) with a minor in Computer Science from Oregon State University.

Jon has studied composition with John Rahn, Joël-François Durand, and Christian Asplund. His past positions include, Lecturer of Music Theory at the University of Washington, Instructor of Digital Music at Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, WA, and Visiting Instructor of Technology and Composition at the University of Oklahoma.
