Susan de Burgh teaches the Camosun College Music Program at the Victoria Conservatory. She also teaches in the Community School at the Conservatory of Music and in her home studio, where she specializes in all levels of piano, pedagogy, and theory. Susan studied at the Dartington School of Music in England, privately in Minnesota with Frank Mannheimer, and with Doris Crofton and Robin Wood at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. With her teaching colleague, Dr. Michael Redshaw, she has mentored many young teachers, one of whom received the Royal Conservatory silver medal for the highest mark in intermediate pedagogy examinations in British Columbia for 2009. Susan has given solo, concerto, chamber music and duo recitals and worked with all instruments and voice. Composers who have written works for Susan include Joan Hansen, Lorna Paterson, Peter Jancewicz and David Clenman. Past workshops have included presentations for The Frederick Harris Music Co. across Canada and in the western United States, and master classes for many music teacher organizations. Susan de Burgh has adjudicated over thirty music festivals, including Calgary, Edmonton, and the Provincial Finals of Alberta and Manitoba. Her performing activities include television broadcasts, concerti with orchestra, duo and solo piano recitals, and chamber music. She has also played orchestral piano, celeste, and harpsichord with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Chamber Orchestra, and the Sidney Classical Orchestra.
Susan de Burgh is the artistic director of the Summer Piano Academy for the Victoria Conservatory of Music. She also teaches pedagogy in Pacific Piano Pedagogy in Victoria.
