“To sing is an expression of your being, a being which is becoming.”

~ Maria Callas

The Classical Voice Department offers top quality training to school-age children through to adults in their “golden years”, to absolute beginners through to highly advanced emerging artists. The voice is the most natural of all instruments, and the first instrument a child will discover.  It is an instrument one cannot easily see and therefore to develop it, one must use great care and have expert guidance.  This is where our excellent Voice faculty come in to help students find their voice and develop it through careful rigorous training that helps build a foundation for singing that lasts a lifetime.

Students registered in Classical Voice are encouraged to participate in the following additional activities:

    • Voice competitions
    • Masterclasses
    • Serenata Concert
    • Music Theatre Workshop Series
    • VCM’s Annual Mother’s Day Music Garden Tour

Voice Competitions

Participation in Voice Competitions involves completing an application, paying the non-refundable $15 application fee, and submitting copies of all sheet music to be performed by the posted deadline.  The Classical Voice Department provides the services of an accompanist for each competition, including run-throughs on the day prior (for Senior A and B Divisions) and on the day of the competition (for Junior and Intermediate Divisions). First and Second Prizes as well as Honourable Mentions are available to be awarded for each competition, and for the Annual Margaret Abbott Memorial English Art Song Competition up to $3,000 in scholarship funding is available to be awarded to participants in the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior A divisions.  Watch for the application link on this page as we approach each competition date.
