Jayne Hammond, Director of Development

The Victoria Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce that development professional Jayne Hammond has joined the organization as Director of Development.

After an extensive search, we are delighted to welcome Jayne Hammond as the next Director of Development for the Victoria Conservatory of Music. An alum of the Conservatory, Jayne returns to the Island from Manitoba after supporting ambitious charitable campaigns. At the heritage campus in Victoria and fast-growing studios in Langford, Jayne joins a team that will advance the Conservatory’s mission of excellence in music education, performance and wellness.” – Nathan Medd, CEO

Jayne joins the Victoria Conservatory of Music from Red River College Polytechnic, Manitoba’s largest institute of applied learning and research. As a Senior Development Officer, Jayne supported the Polytechnic’s $60 million comprehensive campaign with a focus on its flagship campus in downtown Winnipeg.

Throughout her career, Jayne’s passion for music and development have been closely intertwined. As Grants & Corporate Giving Manager at Manitoba Opera, she managed a campaign for what will be the first Indigenous-led opera to appear on a Canadian mainstage (Li Keur: Riel’s Heart of the North premieres this November). Jayne helped create the case for support for Manitoba Opera’s $10 million endowment campaign, and secured the funding required to found their Digital Emerging Artists Program—now in its fourth consecutive year. Working with Canzona, Winnipeg’s Baroque choir, she supported the creation of the Winnipeg Baroque Festival.

Jayne is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, a past Vice-President of Flipside Opera & Art Song Collective, and a member of Opera InReach, a collective working to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in opera education in Canada. Her unique perspective as an artist and development professional passionate about the growth of Canada’s arts and culture sector led to her selection as an Association for Opera in Canada Emerging Artist Fellow in 2020.

Jayne holds a Master of Music from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Music and Opera Diploma from Wilfrid Laurier University. She is the proud mother of two future Conservatory students.
