Meet Chloe Williams!
One of the student performers at the 2022 Spark to Flame Student Showcase!
Chloe has been studying flute with Emily Nagelbach for almost four years. She is in her second year with the Collegium program and is also a member of the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. She is a grateful recipient of several awards and scholarships from the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival where she was recommended as Woodwinds Junior Competitor in 2019 and 2021. Chloe is honoured by the opportunity to perform in the Spark to Flame Showcase and acknowledges, with gratitude, the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples on whose territory she continues her learning at the VCM and as a grade 10 student at Oak Bay High School.
Why did you apply to perform at Spark to Flame?
I really enjoyed playing in the Spark to Flame orchestra in 2018 and 2019. After those experiences, I was curious about the opportunity to perform with the orchestra as a soloist.
What piece are you performing and why did you choose it?
I am performing George Hüe’s Fantaïsie. Written as a morceau de concours for examinations at the Paris conservatory, this piece is meant to show off the capabilities of the modern flute.
What are your aspirations in music?
Right now I am studying for an ARCT, which I hope to complete before finishing high school in two years.
Tell me a bit about yourself, outside of music
Outside of music, I like studying languages. When it is safe to do so, I look forward to travelling again.
2022 Spark to Flame Student Showcase
Featuring some of Victoria’s brightest and best, the Victoria Conservatory of Music (VCM) is proud to present the Spark to Flame Student Showcase on Saturday, March 12th at 7:30pm in Alix Goolden Performance Hall. This in-person, live concert is a magical evening of exciting works for 7 student soloists accompanied by the VCM Chamber Orchestra and led by Maestro Timothy Vernon. VCM faculty artists and local professional musicians join our students to, once again, produce the high-caliber Spark to Flame performance experience that fuels the love of music in our emerging young musicians and audience members alike.
