The incredible philanthropic work of Eric Charman has been recognized by the creation of a Bursary fund in his name at the VCM. CEO Jane Butler McGregor says the fund is a perfect way to honour “the undisputed chief rallying force for the arts in Victoria for the past 60 years.” A total of $350,000 has been raised so far with a goal of reaching $1 million by 2022 – Eric’s 90th birthday!

Created as a way to reflect his lifelong commitment to music and his devotion to supporting emerging young musicians, $12,000 was distributed this year to assist VCM students who require financial support in order to pursue their musical education at the VCM.

The VCM is so grateful for Mr. Charman’s remarkable generosity and devotion to our students. In the words of Jane Butler McGregor, “it is a remarkable gift to our VCM students in honour of a remarkable man.”
