Brad Howland holds a B.Mus. degree from the University of British Columbia, and a Master’s degree in performance from Northwestern University. Principal teachers included Frank Crisafulli of the Chicago Symphony, Richard Erb of the Louisiana Philharmonic, and Gordon Cherry of the Vancouver Symphony.
Brad Howland won the audition for Principal Trombone of the Victoria Symphony in 1989, holding the position for 35 years before retiring in 2024. He has also performed as a substitute musician with numerous ensembles, including the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Brad has taught trombone and euphonium on the faculties of the University of Victoria, Comox Valley Youth Music Centre, Victoria Conservatory of Music, and Marrowstone Music Festival and the VCM proudly welcomes him back in 2025.
Brad began composing music in 2020 and is fortunate to have had some pieces performed by local groups and orchestras.
