Meet Daniel Sanabria Torres, a 14-year-old flutist from Bogotá, Colombia, now continuing his musical training at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and performing with the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra. Daniel has already earned top prizes at the Cowichan Consort Concerto Competition, the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and several national music festivals.
For Spark to Flame, Daniel will perform Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G-Major.
“The melodies and harmonies tell a story that reveal the intent of the composer,” he shares. “My goal is to accomplish that intent and make the audience feel and understand it.”
This performance marks the beginning of his journey with the piece—one he hopes to revisit throughout his musical career.
Reflecting on his journey so far, Daniel remembers performing as a soloist with the National Symphony of Colombia, an experience that challenged him, excited him, and filled him with pride. Outside of music, he enjoys reading novels and exploring BC’s trails, finding inspiration in forests, rivers, and wildlife.
On stage, Daniel hopes to share happiness and excitement, letting audiences feel the joy that music brings him. Don’t miss this talented young flutist at Spark to Flame!
