OperaFest
The Victoria Conservatory of Music is proud to announce the second season of OperaFest!
This season’s production will be Claudio Monteverdi’s extraordinary masterpiece L’incoronazione di Poppea.
The production will feature a double cast, with each cast receiving two performances, accompanied by chorus and chamber orchestra.
Auditions
Auditions will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 2:00–6:00pm in the Greenhouse (Metro Theatre).
Please prepare two pieces from the classical repertoire (this may include art song) that you feel best showcase your voice and artistic abilities.
Please submit your music as soon as you are able, the application deadline for the auditions will be October 23, 2026.
Applications are currently being accepted through operafestvcm[at]gmail.com. Please include your name, the name of your teacher at the Conservatory, and the names of your two repertoire choices with an attached PDF files of the music.
OperaFest Program
July 5–17, 2027 | 10:00am-5:00pm
This program strives to provide students with professional-level production experience performing roles from the operatic repertoire. It includes musical staging and orchestra rehearsals, movement warm-ups, as well as private music and diction coaching.
An additional workshop led by faculty member Kyron Basu, focusing on Italian diction and Baroque ornamentation, will be offered for those wishing help in preparing their roles (soon to be announced for May 2027). This will be a wonderful opportunity to prepare for the stylistic and linguistic demands of Monteverdi’s music.
Chorus
Chorus participation will take place through a Monteverdi Madrigal course (soon to be announced). Chorus members will learn 3–4 Monteverdi madrigals, as well as their chorus parts for the opera.
