Allan Slade

Allan Slade, a Certified Music Therapist, has been a member of the Victoria Conservatory of Music faculty for 22 years. He holds a Bachelor of Music Therapy Degree and a Diploma in Commercial Music from Capilano University. He has worked extensively with adults, youth and children with developmental disabilities, brain injuries and mental illness. With a passion for innovative technology, he uses Soundbeam and other adaptive electronic musical equipment to help his clients reach their full potential. He also works with the elderly in residential care facilities in the Victoria area.

Slade’s passion for composition in therapy has guided his entire music therapy practice. Recently, he supported composer Ari Kinarthy through the challenges of writing music for the film ‘Ari’s Theme’ which is currently on the film festival circuit. ‘Ari’s Theme’ was selected as the feature film for the Gala Opening of the 2024 Vancouver International Film Festival, with live music played by members of the Vancouver Symphony. He is a past board member for the Music Therapy Association of British Columbia and the recipient of the Canadian Association for Music Therapy Peer Recognition Award..
