Ingrid Henderson

Ingrid received A.A.Mus (Camosun College) and AVCM (Victoria Conservatory of Music) in both Piano Performance and Piano Teaching/Pedagogy including the AVCM Diploma Teacher Training Excellence Award in 1985. Ingrid holds a membership with the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers Association (RMTA) since 1993. She has been a VCM Faculty member since 1985 and recognized by the Glenn Gould Professional School as a teacher with exceptionally talented students. She specializes in preparing young talent for solo and orchestral piano performance.

Ingrid’s students have received many awards from RCM/VCM examinations, including the Gold Medal for the ARCT Performer’s Diploma; they have won numerous awards and scholarships from local, provincial and national competitions, CBC Up and Coming and Young Musicians’ Competitions.

Her students have performed with the Victoria Symphony and other orchestras on many occasions, also in the presence of British Royalty, Canadian and International dignitaries. In 2004 Ingrid was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for her dedication to teaching and inspiring young people in performance throughout the community. In addition, she was the recipient of the Arts Leader of the Year CFAX Community Award.

Ingrid’s students have had the privilege to receive master classes with distinguished pianists Murray Perahia, Anton Kuerti, Angela Cheng, Jane Coop, Stephen Hough and have been accepted for studies at the Julliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the National Arts Centre School.
