Julien Amar, MTA, has always been an avid music maker. He completed a BA in Theatre with a minor in Music (performance, piano) and English (creative writing) at Bishop’s University in 2014. Since then, he has toured with various bands, taught music to people with a wide variety of ages and needs and completed three music therapy internships in Montreal. A recent alumni of Concordia’s Music Therapy graduate degree program, he aims to bring a client-centered approach to his practice, with the strong belief that every client is unique and has unique needs. Julien offers Music Therapy sessions to children, youth and adults.
Additionally, Julien has written numerous original works, assisted Music Therapy participants with their own songwriting process, and worked as a music composition teacher at City School in Vancouver. Throughout his internships in Montreal, he worked at the Centre for Arts in Human Development with adults with various abilities, the Aim High high school program for students with various behavioural and intellectual needs and completed his internships at The Cummings Centre working with elders. He has also delivered a lecture on the topic of leadership in music making settings to UBC’s Sauder business school, musical-directed various theatre productions and worked as a substitute teacher at Vancouver’s Fraser Academy.
