Richard Volet began his musical studies with Victor Harris, the long time piccoloist with the New York City Ballet. His later teachers were the legendary flutists Thomas Nyfenger and Samuel Baron, and Stuart Knussen, Principal Double Bass of the London Symphony. Richard has taught extensively at all levels, from beginners to aspiring professionals, for thirty five years. His students have ranged in age from four to eighty, and many have gone on to study at the finest post secondary institutions, and become professional flutists.
Richard has performed extensively in solo, chamber and orchestral music, including numerous CBC recordings in these genres. He has performed with the Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver Opera, new music group Aventa, and appears regularly in chamber music with Eine Kleine Summer Music. Richard has been playing with the Victoria Symphony since 1988.
