Born into a family of musicians and artists, Sahara Sloan’s musical career has spanned two decades achieving success in both classical and contemporary music.
Growing up, she trained under her grandmother, Betty Doroschuk (McGill University), and father Colin Doroschuk (Victoria Conservatory of Music) during which time her professional career began after winning the David Foster Star Search at age 11. She went on to perform as a soloist with local Victoria companies such as Ballet Victoria (Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Medea Metamorphosis, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater – soprano soloist), Victoria Symphony (Symphony Splash Young Performer of 2017), and the Victoria Philharmonic Choir (Canadian Premier of Karl Jenkins’ Requiem – soprano soloist) to name a few.
From there, she completed postsecondary studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School under Jean McPhail. From there she was accepted into the prestigious young artist program of l’Opéra du Rhin (Strasbourg, France) at age 22 where she performed numerous concerts and roles including the title role in Blanche Neige (Lange).
She continued her career in opera performing at the Châtelet in Paris, l’Opéra de Metz, Opéra- théatre nationale de Besançon, Opéra de Rimouski before making the switch to classical crossover with her husband, tenor, Christian Sauvageau with whom she founded the duo INCANTO.
In addition to teaching voice at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, Sahara also tours periodically as a member of the world-renowned band MEN WITHOUT HATS (Safety Dance, Pop Goes the World).
