The Gary Karr Young Artists Performance Academy is an academic year program, running from September to May with auditions the previous May.

2027/2028 application and audition dates are yet to be announced, and are typically in May.

Application Process

Step #1: Pay Application Fee

New applicants must pay a one-time, non-refundable $35 application fee. Returning students can skip to step #2.

  • In person at our Front Desk with Cash, Debit Card, or Credit Card.


Step #2: Apply for financial assistance

If applicable, your financial applications are also due by May 4:

Step #4: Audition

All new and returning students are required to audition.

Auditioning students should prepare two contrasting works which best show their current level of performance. You are not required to have an accompanist in your audition. The audition will last a maximum of 15 minutes and will include conversation with the jurors where you will be asked the following questions:

  1. Why do you want to join the Academy?
  2. What other extra-curricular activities do you pursue which may conflict with the Academy?
  3. Commitment Rating: On a scale of 1 (not much) – 10 (top priority in your life) please give a rating number to how committed you will be to doing Chamber Music in the Academy. Senior Instrumentalists are expected to rehearse with their group once per week on a day other than Monday.

The Academy currently does not offer vocal instruction, so to learn more about our Voice programs please visit our Course Calendar.

Notice: This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training and as such has not been reviewed.
