Filmed in Alix Goolden Performance Hall, this original piece is performed by Ari and members of VCM Faculty, including Music Therapist Allan Slade. ABOUT ARI Ari Kinarthy

Ari Kinarthy discovered his creative talents through the innovative Music Therapy Department at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. For Ari, who has spinal muscular atrophy (type 2), a condition that has affected his muscles since birth, his work with Allan has been life-transforming.

He has been working with VCM Music Therapist Allan Slade since he was 17 and now at the age of 31, Ari is an accomplished musician/composer who makes music with a computer and the Soundbeam using movements he makes with his wheelchair.

ARI’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS

In 2012, Ari released his first album ‘The Lions Journey’. At the launch party, Ari performed before a full house at the VCM’s Wood Hall and attracted more than 6,000 hits on his YouTube channel.

The next year, Ari submitted his track ‘Pain E Motion’ to the Soundbeam UK’s 25th Anniversary International Competition and won the award for ‘Best Original Composition’, in the solo category. Esteemed judges included Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones, conductor Charles Hazlewood, and composer Edward Williams.

Building on the success of ‘The Lions Journey’, Ari released his second album, ‘The Lions Roar’ in 2014. The album spans multiple genres, drawing on musical traditions from around the world made accessible by computer technology.

Ari considers his biggest accomplishment to be completing a 3-year program at Berklee College of Music and receiving a certification in Music Composition and Orchestration for Film and TV.
