Launched in 2023, the Henwood Family Prize is all about celebrating the next generation of artists who are making waves in contemporary music. Open to youth aged 12-21, this prize is a chance to showcase your work and be recognized for your creativity. Whether you’re into jazz, rock, pop, R&B, folk, hip-hop, or anything in between, this is your moment to shine.
What’s Up for Grabs
Two winners will each receive a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to perform live on the Alix Goolden Performance Hall stage at the Victoria Conservatory of Music—an unforgettable experience for any emerging artist. But that’s not all! Winners will also have the chance to be professionally recorded, which could lead to more opportunities and exposure in the music industry.
There are two categories in the competition:
- Best Original Contemporary Song
- Best Performance of a Contemporary Song
Eligibility
- You must be between 12 and 21 years old as of the application deadline.
- You must reside on Vancouver Island (South, up to and including Nanaimo) or the Gulf Islands.
How to Apply
The application process is simple, and there’s no application fee! All you need to do is submit your work before the deadline: May 21, 2025, by 6:00 PM PDT.
