Isidora Uhlman plays the violin

Meet Isidora Uhlman! Isidora is a 15-year old violinist who will take center stage at this year’s Spark to Flame student showcase on March 1. With free tickets available (RSVP required), this is your chance to experience the magic of young musicians bringing their dreams to life.

A Musical Journey

Isidora has been playing the violin for 11 years, starting two months before her fourth birthday. She was given a violin by her grandmother and it immediately became her favorite thing.

“I loved the violin’s sound, and feeling like a musician, and I was eager to learn how to play. ”

From that first spark of inspiration to today, Isidora has experienced many memorable moments including performing at the Provincial Festival where she was thrilled to meet young musicians from all around BC and hear their performances.

Choosing the Perfect Piece

For Spark to Flame, Isidora chose to perform the first movement from Mozart’s Concerto No. 3 in G Major because it has a lively melody and diverse characters.

“If I were born during his time, I would love to meet with Mozart. Working with such a great composer would be amazing, and it would be so interesting to learn more about how he intended for his music to be played.”

She hopes the audience will feel the emotional contrast in this piece, from happiness and playfulness to sadness and anger.

Inspirations and Aspirations

Isidora identified Itzhak Perlman as her main influence due to his expressive musicality. She hopes to achieve that level of beauty in her own playing while she works towards becoming a solo violinist.

“My goal is for my violin to convey a wide range of personalities that vary depending on the piece that I am playing.”

Outside of music, she loves to read, bake and cook, listen to music, spend time with friends, and spending time outside hiking or visiting new places.

2025 Spark to Flame Student Showcase

The annual Spark to Flame program is presented through the Ann & George Nation Conservatory School of Classical Music and supports the development of young emerging professional artists.

Open to all students of the Victoria Conservatory of Music, soloists are selected through audition, and then offered the opportunity to be mentored by various Conservatory faculty over the weeks leading up to the concert, including rehearsals with orchestra.

The concert is a magical evening featuring seven very talented student soloists accompanied by fellow student peers, faculty artists, and other professional musicians.
