The Victoria Conservatory of Music’s Classical Voice Department is proud to announce the final student competitions of the 2024/25 school year: the Oratorio & Sacred Song Competition, and an exciting new addition — the Grand Opera Aria Competition!
Open to all Conservatory voice students of any age or ability level, the Oratorio & Sacred Song Competition offers an opportunity to perform a solo work drawn from classical sacred music or oratorio repertoire. Students must have been registered in voice studies for at least 10 weeks prior to the competition date to be eligible.
New this year, the Grand Opera Aria Competition invites singers at the Senior Division level to showcase their operatic talent. This special event will immediately follow the Oratorio & Sacred Song Competition on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, beginning at 8:00pm.
Thanks to the generous support of the Henwood Family Foundation, the Grand Opera Aria Competition will award two cash prizes:
- 1st Prize: $1500
- Runner-Up: $1000
Winners will be chosen at the discretion of this year’s esteemed adjudicators: Giuseppe Pietraroia, Principal Conductor of Pacific Opera Victoria, and Kimberley-Ann Bartczak, Principal Coach and Music Administrator.
About Voice Competitions at the Victoria Conservatory of Music
The Classical Voice department offers six annual Song Competitions for current students of the Victoria Conservatory of Music to perform, compete, and receive feedback from renowned and respected adjudicators.
Competitors have the opportunity to sing one or two songs, depending on the number of competitors, at the discretion of the Voice Department Head. Singers are requested to specify on their application which of the two songs they will perform in the event that time considerations limit each competitor to one song only.
