VCM Alum: Michael Wilford new single ‘Scotch’ out now

Published March 9 , 2021 VCM/ Camosun College Postsecondary Performance Diploma Alum, Michael Wilford has released his new single ‘Scotch’ available for digital download and streaming. It is his debut single as a songwriter and is co-written with VCM Alum Joshua Litton (Performance Diploma, 2018) and Colleen Eccleston (Postsecondary Instructional Faculty).

The single features Chelsea D.E. Johnson (vocals) of Vancouver’s Old Soul Rebel, Joshua Litton (acoustic guitar, bass, and lap steel), Chris Lloyd (slide guitar, electric guitar), Ben Erikson (keys), and Michael Wilford (drums). 2020 International Songwriting Competition

Additionally, this first single, was selected as a semi-finalist and today was announced as a finalist in the Blues category of the 2020 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). The International Songwriting Competition is an annual song contest whose mission is to provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional, international area. The songs are sent to celebrity judges for adjudication (these include such artists as Coldplay, Tom Waits, Dua Lipa, and more). The International Songwriting Competition received over 26,000 entries this year. Semi-finalists account for almost 9% of all entries and finalists are 1% of all entries.

More About Michael Wilford

In 2015 Michael moved to Victoria to study drums with Damian Graham through the Victoria Conservatory of Music Chwyl Family School of Contemporary Music. This gave him the chance to work and perform with amazing artists like Daniel Lapp, Louise Rose, Bill Henderson and many others. He graduated from the VCM/ Camosun Diploma in Music Performance in 2018 and joined VCM Faculty teaching drums and Rock Band group classes. Learn more about Michael at this VCM Spotlight video.

Also, Michael was recently awarded the 2020 VCM Recording and Production Project Award. Newly launched in May 2019, the Recording & Production Project Award is intended to support current students of theVCM, developing as emerging music artists, who aspire to record themselves and/or other emerging music artists, through a personal or collaborative creative and entrepreneurial project.
