BC Fiddle Orchestra (BCFO)

The BC Fiddle Orchestra began with a small group of talented and enthusiastic young violinists from Daniel Lapp’s studio. The first performance, in 1994, was at the Opening Ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games in front of 60,000 people. The BC Fiddle Orchestra has gone on to perform at numerous festivals and ceremonies throughout the province. Dozens of young fiddlers, many of whom are now professional musicians, have learned the art of fiddling during their apprenticeship with the BC Fiddle Orchestra which exposes students to styles and genres from around the world. Founder and director Daniel Lapp has travelled the globe learning tunes from great masters and is himself considered a Canadian fiddle icon. Daniel was awarded the Canadian Folk Music Innovator Award in 2013 for his mentorship of young fiddlers.

Acceptance by audition. Non-fiddlers are also welcome to audition and be part of the BC Fiddle Orchestra Band.

All BC Fiddle Orchestra members continue weekly private lessons and commit to 3 private lessons with Daniel during the year. The 3 lessons with Daniel are included in the tuition listed above.
