Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at the Victoria Conservatory of Music

Jun 11, 2026

On June 21, communities across Canada come together to recognize and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day—a time to honour the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. This year, the Victoria Conservatory of Music invites you to join us for an afternoon of learning, connection, and celebration.

From 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, our doors will be open for a free, family-friendly event filled with engaging workshops, music, and cultural experiences. All are welcome.

The Victoria Conservatory of Music is located on the traditional lands of the Songhees, Esquimalt, W̱SÁNEĆ and Beecher Bay Nations, where we are privileged to learn, work, and perform.

A Day of Culture, Music, and Shared Experience

The afternoon will include a series of interactive workshops and presentations designed to bring people together in a spirit of respect and curiosity.

Participants can take part in:

  • Learning an ancestral song
  • Métis jigging
  • A youth-led Bone Game
  • A collaborative beat and lyric cypher
  • Screenings of music videos created by students from Craigflower Elementary and the ȽÁU, WELNEW Tribal School
