Opera Quest at the Victoria Conservatory of Music is thrilled to announce the world premiere of JÉHANNE, a bold new operatic work by Artistic Director Colin Doroschuk. Taking the stage on June 27, 2025 in the stunning Alix Goolden Performance Hall, JÉHANNE reimagines the extraordinary vision quest of Joan of Arc through a contemporary, bilingual lens.
Blending English and French text with acoustic, electric, and electronic instrumentation, JÉHANNE invites audiences into an immersive journey of courage, faith, and transformation. This original production will feature an ensemble of emerging Canadian opera artists alongside dancers, chorus members, and a professional creative team.
The title role will be performed by rising soprano Kathryn Riopel, joined by mezzo sopranos Jessica Lyublinsky and Natalie Vong, as part of Opera Quest’s mission to provide paid, professional-level training and performance opportunities to the next generation of operatic talent.
Opera Quest offers an intensive, mentorship-based experience that pairs emerging artists with industry leaders in stage direction, music, choreography, and production design. Each Opera Quest project culminates in a fully staged performance, giving young performers hands-on experience in bringing a new operatic work to life.
JÉHANNE marks a new chapter in Opera Quest’s journey and a powerful moment for contemporary Canadian opera.
